SmCo or Samarium Cobalt is also classified as a rare earth permanent magnet, and entered the market in the 1970s.
It is divided into two groups: Sm1Co5 and Sm2Co17, referred to as 1-5 and 2-17 respectively,
which defines the energy range, the 2-17 being the higher of the two groups. The cost of SmCo magnets is high.
